  • Provenance: Bob Gibson Tjungurrayi is a contemporary Aboriginal artist hailing from the Western Desert region of Australia. Born in 1974 at Papunya, he moved with his family to Tjukurla during the homelands movement of the 1980s, a period when many Ngaanyatjarra people returned to their ancestral lands.

Bob is the son of Mary Gibson, a respected Tjarlirli artist from Kulkurta, and his father's country lies near Patjarr. This deep cultural heritage profoundly influences his artistic expression, as he transforms traditional storytelling into vibrant, contemporary masterpieces.

Bob began painting with Tjarlirli Art in 2007, quickly developing a distinctive style characterized by bold colours, dynamic forms, and expressive mark-making. His works often depict Tingari, secret men's business associated with ancestral journeys and sacred sites near Tjukurla. He also paints his dreaming ‘ Walatu' which represents his sacred country. These paintings are noted for their raw intensity and energetic compositions, blending traditional stories with a contemporary flair.

Bob's artworks have been featured in numerous exhibitions and are held in private collections both nationally and internationally. His unique approach to Aboriginal art continues to garner attention and acclaim, solidifying his position among the leading contemporary Indigenous artists.
