'Aralya- My Country'
Acrylic on canvas.
Painted in 2023.
Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Artwork is stretched and ready to hang.

  • Provenance: Damien Marks Tjangala and Yilpi Marks Atira are a talented duo from central Australia. Damien is from the remote Haasts Bluff community "Ikuntji" in the Northern Territory. Yilpi is from the very remote "Pukatja" community in South Australia.

Damien and Yilpi often collaborate, blending their individual ancestral stories into vibrant, large-scale paintings . Their joint works, such as ‘Aralya - My Country', are striking aerial maps of their desert landscapes, interlacing ceremonial iconography, camp sites, waterholes, bush food, and regalia from both men's and women's Dreamings, a rare integration in Western Desert art.

Painted in acrylic on linen or canvas, Damien and Yilpi's works feature dynamic dot work, layered colour fields, and vivid contrasts- reds, oranges, purples, blues, and earth tones are deployed to convey movement and ritual energy across Country. Many works are monumental in scale and imbued with a modern, expressive intensity.

Damien and Yilpi's paintings have been featured in major exhibitions across Australia, including Heirs and Successors (Japingka Gallery, 2012), Defining Tradition: The Colourists (Kate Owen Gallery, 2019), and Colours of Spring (2020). Their artworks regularly appear at auctions, with Aralya - My Country becoming more sought after, reflecting a growing market and emerging collector recognition.
