Provenance:
Helen McCarthy Tyalmuty was born in Tennant Creek approximately 500 kilometres north of Alice Springs in 1972.
The artist completed her education in far North Queensland and went on to study her degree in Indigenous Education at Deakin University in 1994.
Helen began to develop her artistic talent in the early 1900's and was involved in her first art festival in 1993. As a full time teacher, for over ten years Helen incorporated her art into her teaching, focusing on teaching young Indigenous peoples in remote communities the importance of education whilst nurturing their innate artistic abilities.
In 2006 Helen held her first solo exhibition in Sydney and shortly after exhibited in both Melbourne and Singapore. In 2007 Helen was awarded the honourable Peoples Choice award at the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Prize.
Following this, Helen was also a finalist in the 2008 Telstra Art Prize.
In 2011, Helen went on to commission the backdrop artwork in which Oprah Winfrey filmed her show during her Australian visit.
Helen's innate connection to her Country means that the artist frequently travels to her homeland in the Northern Territory and continues to develop her unique spiritual depictions of her Country.
Helen developed her Dreaming from her ancestors and in turn portrays this onto the canvas in a bold and intricate fashion.
Helen's ability to combine a contemporary rendition of her communities historic Dreaming is just one of the reason's why this amazing artist has been so widely recognised for her artistic success.
