Description:

JEANNIE MILLS PWERLE

"Bush Yam"
Acrylic on canvas.
Painted in 2024.
Comes with Certificate of Authenticity.
Artwork is stretched and ready to hang.

  • Provenance: Jeannie Mills Pwerle is a respected Alyawarre artist from the Utopia region of Central Australia, known for her bold and vibrant depictions of Bush Yam (Anaty) Dreaming. As the daughter of the late renowned artist Minnie Pwerle, Jeannie carries forward a rich legacy of cultural knowledge and artistic innovation rooted in women's ceremonial traditions and deep connection to Country.

Her work is inspired by the Anaty Dreaming, a significant totemic story associated with her ancestral land. Through dynamic dotting techniques and rhythmic patterns, Jeannie maps the growth and life cycle of the bush yam, an important source of food and a symbol of sustenance, survival, and spiritual connection. Her canvases are alive with movement, texture, and colour, embodying both ancient knowledge and contemporary expression.

Jeannie Mills Pwerle is part of the next generation of Utopia women artists who have gained recognition both nationally and internationally. Her paintings have been exhibited widely and are held in major public and private collections across Australia and beyond.

Through her art, Jeannie continues the cultural responsibilities passed down by her mother and ancestors, sharing the enduring stories of Alyawarre Country and the strength of Aboriginal women's knowledge and creativity.
