  • Provenance: Kudditji Kngwarreye (c.1938-2017), fondly known as Goob, was a revered Anmatyerre elder from the Utopia homelands in Central Australia, born around 1938 and based in Alhalkere, approximately 250 km northeast of Alice Springs. He was the younger brother of esteemed artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye.

Originally leading a traditional bush life, Kudditji worked as a stockman and miner, and served as a custodian of ancestral sites and ceremonies, particularly those associated with Emu Dreaming (Ankerre) near Boundary Bore, WA. He began painting in 1986, initially producing finely dotted Emu Dreaming works, in the popular style of the time.

Over time, Kudditji evolved a signature style of lyrical abstraction, layering vibrant color fields using broad, heavily loaded paintbrush strokes that evoke the land's shifting skies, seasonal hues, and deep emotional ties to Country. These large-scale, dynamic canvases resonate with the palette of the desert: the reds of heat, the blues of wet-season skies, and the earth's tonal subtleties.

Celebrated as an innovator of the Central Desert art movement, Kudditji held solo exhibitions across Australia and internationally, including in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Houston. His work also appears in major public and private collections, from the Araluen Art Centre to those in France and the USA.
