Ngoia Pollard Napaltjarri

Ngoia Pollard Napaltjarri was born in around 1948 in the Haasts Bluff region of the Northern Territory (227kms west of Alice Springs).

Western desert artists such as Ngoia Pollard frequently paint particular a Dreaming, or stories, for which they have personal responsibility or custodial rights. Many of Ngoia’s works relate to the region of “Yamunturrngu” – Mount Liebig, in the country to the west of Haasts Bluff, her father’s country.

Her works are often characterised by the use of oval shapes representing swamps and lakes. Ngoia uses a muted colour palette of mostly black, white and red.

Ngoia has won several major art prizes, including the 2006 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award for her painting “Lakes Near Nyrippi”. Her works are held in major private and public collections, including the National Gallery of Australia.
