ARTIST BIO

Norman Lindsay is an Australian artist and writer who was born in 1879 to artistic parents. The Lindsay family in their time produced five noteworthy artists.

In 1901, Norman Lindsay moved to the Blue Mountains in New South Wales and worked for the Bulletin almost up until his death in 1969.

Lindsay published his first novel in 1913, and after this became prolific in his works as a drawer, painter and sculptor beginning in the 1920’s.

Lindsay’s subject matter often depicts that of Bohemian women in a fantasy like portrayal.

Given Lindsay’s portrayal of often nude women and figures, many in the early 20th century deemed Lindsay’s works as blasphemous, even banning his novel at one point.

However, in time Lindsay’s art has been widely appreciated for it’s beauty and uniqueness, remaining highly relevant even today.
